Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, we depart from the hotel with picnic lunch, drive to Lake Manyara via Maasai village. The Park derives its name from the Maasai word "Manyara," which is the name for the plant Euphorbia trucalli. The Maasai use this plant to grow livestock stockades. Eventually Manyara will produce a stock proof hedge which is more durable than any made of cut thorn branches. There is a specimen of Euphorbia trucalli at the entrance gate. The Great Rift Valley is part of a fault in the earth's crust which stretches 8,000 kilometers (4,971 miles) from Turkey to the mouth of the Zambezi River in Mozambique. Game drives in the park till evening. Dinner and overnight at the Lake Manyara Hotel on Full board basis.
Lake Manyara Hotel is dramatically
located in the very edge of the vertiginous western escarpment of the
Rift Valley, affording magnificent views down across the whole lake.
Lake Manyara Hotel invites you to an unforgettable Safari Experience
from its privileged location, unrivalled by any other both for game
viewing and scenery. Elegantly designed as a two levels ensemble of
buildings, its authentic traditional African style decorations create
a unique atmosphere that perfectly combines extreme tranquility with
the best of adventure packed Safari experiences. From its privileged
position, all the Hotel's 100 guestrooms have stunning views across
the tranquil and beautiful waters of the Lake. The spectacular swimming
pool, situated in a panoramic setting, is a privileged location to
enjoy the invigorating fresh air and the breathtaking views of the
Pink Lake.
Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600-metre high
Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting
extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”.
The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual
microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience.
From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush
jungle-like groundwater forest where hundred-strong baboon troops
lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly
between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily
through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously
in the high canopy.
Contrasting with the intimacy of the forest is the grassy floodplain and its expansive views eastward, across the alkaline lake, to the jagged blue volcanic peaks that rise from the endless Maasai Steppes. Large buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds congregate on these grassy plains, as do giraffes – some so dark in coloration that they appear to be black from a distance. Inland of the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favoured haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants. Squadrons of banded mongoose dart between the acacias, while the diminutive Kirk’s dik-dik forages in their shade. Pairs of klipspringer are often seen silhouetted on the rocks above a field of searing hot springs that steams and bubbles adjacent to the lakeshore in the far south of the park.
Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large waterbirds such as pelicans, cormorants and storks.
Those that do — the Ndala, Bagayo and Endabash — cascade down the entire face of the wall when flowing. Despite the fact Lake Manyara National Park is only 330 square kilometers (127 square miles) in area — of which about 230 square kilometers (89 square miles) are lake — Lake Manyara National park contains a large variety of habitats: the rift wall, the ground water forest, acacia woodland, areas of open grassland, the lake shore, swamp and the lake itself. Due to the variety of habitats the Park is able to support a large number of species. Over 380 species of birds, some migratory, have been recorded in the Park. Enjoy game drives and sonic view in the park till evening. Dinner and overnight at the Standard Lodge/Luxury Tented Lodge or Serena Hotel/Lodge.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park Ndutu Area
After breakfast drive to the Great Serengeti National Park with lunch and game drives en route. Going to Serengeti you pass via Ngorongoro Crater and also visit Olduvai Gorge (historical site). You will pass through Ngorongoro Conservation Area to reach the Serengeti National Park. Leaving the Ngorongoro highlands behind you will enter the Southern plains of the Serengeti National Park where your eyes will have an opportunity to see up to its limits as you will be viewing the endless plains with lots of animals. Actually the name Serengeti is the corruption of the Maasai word Serengeti which means endless plains. Game drives in the park then onward to overnight stay at Ndutu Safari Lodge on Full board basis.
<< BACK |Top |Middle|Bottom| BOOK TOUR
In the heart of the Serengeti Plain, at the head of Olduvai Gorge, beside
a small lake set in beautiful acacia woodland, with the mighty backdrop
of the Ngorongoro Crater highlands. Ndutu airstrip (all weather, since
April 2008) is 1 Kilometer away from the lodge. Approximate flying time
from Arusha Airport to Ndutu is 50 minutes. Free transfers are available
to transport guests to and from Ndutu airstrip to the lodge. Daily scheduled
air service is available from Arusha to the Ndutu airstrip. Other airstrips
in the vicinity are Seronera and Manyara. Altitude: 1646 metres 5400 feet.
A
million wildebeest... each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling
its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life: a frenzied three-week
bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as
40km (25 mile) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters
on the annual exodus north; replenishing the species in a brief population
explosion that produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000
km (600 mile) pilgrimage begins again. Tanzania's oldest and most popular
national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a
7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration,
when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000
zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for
fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti
offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great
herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands
upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.
The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania’s greatest
park. Golden-manned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers.
Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River,
while a high density of cheetahs prowls the southeastern plains. Almost
uniquely, all three African jackal species occur here, alongside the
spotted hyena and a host of more elusive small predators, ranging from
the insectivorous aardwolf to the beautiful serval cat.
But there is more to Serengeti than large mammals. Gaudy agama lizards and rock hyraxes scuffle around the surfaces of the park’s isolated granite kopjes. A full 100 varieties of dung beetle have been recorded, as have 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills. As enduring as the game-viewing is the liberating sense of space that characterizes the Serengeti Plains, stretching across sunburn savannah to a shimmering golden horizon at the end of the earth. Yet, after the rains, this golden expanse of grass is transformed into an endless green carpet flecked with wildflowers. And there are also wooded hills and towering termite mounds, rivers lined with fig trees and acacia woodland stained orange by dust. Popular the Serengeti might be, but it remains so vast that you may be the only human audience when a pride of lions masterminds a siege, focused unswervingly on its next meal.
Day 4: Full day in Serengeti National Park,
After Breakfast you depart from the lodge and head out to the bush for half day game viewing in Ndutu area then you have a lunch time break, (you have a choice to take picnics with you as you head out to the bush for a full day game drives) or return to have a hot lunch at the Lodge, and go on with game drives until evening, you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight in the Ndutu Safari Lodge on Full board basis.

Day 6: Serengeti Ndutu area to Serengeti Western Corridor

Standing high on the bluff of a bush-cloaked
ridge, commanding panoramic views over the endlessly rolling reaches
and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti National Park, Kirawira Camp is the
epitome of colonially-styled safari luxury. Designed in typically Edwardian
style, it features an elegant central meeting tent evocatively furnished
with a tasteful selection of chintz-covered chaises longues, jewel-hued
Persian rugs, antique escritoires, wind-up phonograms, leather-bound
traveling cases, brass shooting sticks, carved rocking chairs, and stud-backed
smoking chairs. The tent also incorporates a stained-glass and mahogany
Edwardian bar and a stone flagged, khaki-and-canvas ‘Sun downer’ terrace
looking out over gently sloping acacia groves towards the lilac-grey
hills and lion-gold plains of the Serengeti’s Western Corridor, scene
of the thunderous theatre of the million-strong wildebeest
migration. As for camp views, from lilac-streaked sunrise to diamond-domed
night, the searingly sensational Serengeti delivers a series of timeless
volcanic vistas that are second to none.Day 7: Full day in Serengeti Western Corridor.
